Pet Portrait Season
Our pets hold such a special place in our lives. They are our companions, our family members and the source of countless memories. A custom portrait is a beautiful way to celebrate that bond—and preserve it for years to come.
I recently had the honor of creating a portrait of Tex, the beloved dog of Lisa Rice’s daughter. Sadly, Tex passed away just a few weeks ago, making this painting an especially meaningful keepsake for the family.
Tex was rarely seen without a stick in his mouth, so naturally his portrait would not have been complete without one. Including that familiar detail helped me capture not only what Tex looked like, but also the playful personality his family knew and loved.
I delivered the finished portrait to Lisa yesterday. Seeing her smile as she held it was a wonderful moment.
Most of my pet portraits include something uniquely connected to the animal’s personality. It might be a favorite toy, a well-loved blanket, a treasured ball—or, in Tex’s case, the stick he always carried. These personal touches help turn a likeness into a portrait that tells a story.
Every pet is different, and every portrait I create is individually made to capture the character and spirit that make that animal special. Whether your pet is still by your side or lives on in your memories, a hand-created portrait can become a lasting and deeply personal tribute.
If you have been thinking about commissioning a portrait of your pet—or creating a heartfelt gift for someone who loves theirs—this is a wonderful time to begin.
